Workshop Report: Preventing Bullying & Cyberbullying: Implementing NCPCR Guidelines in School

At Ahlcon International School, we are dedicated to safeguarding the rights of every child and fostering a secure and supportive learning environment, irrespective of their abilities, disabilities, or differences. Embracing the ethos of ‘Don’t stand by, stand up!’, we embarked on a journey to empower our educators by acquainting them with the latest guidelines from ‘The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights’ (NCPCR). These
guidelines comprehensively address bullying in physical and online spaces, ensuring the safety of children both in the real and digital realms.
Aligned with our commitment, we recently organized a workshop titled “Preventing Bullying and Cyberbullying: Guidelines for Schools,” led by Special Educator Ms. Tarannum Bhasin on 13th April 2024. Attended by the Headmistress of the Preparatory Stage, Ms. Kavita Shah, and preparatory stage teachers, the workshop delved into
various aspects including the effects, types, causes, and signs of bullying and cyberbullying. A focal point was the detailed discussion on the reporting process,equipping teachers with knowledge on how and where to report incidents, including recourse to bodies like the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Child Welfare Committee (CWC),
and provisions under the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000. Strategies for prevention were also elucidated, alongside guidance on responding to disclosures from affected children.
Acknowledging the indispensable role of mentors in fostering a conducive learning environment, we extend our gratitude to Principal Mr. Sanjay Yadav and Vice Principal Mr. Puneet Duggal for their unwavering support and commitment. Their dedication to
facilitating ample research and addressing queries ensured the success of this workshop.
The investment of time was invaluable, as the clarity of mind among teachers directly impacts student welfare and future prospects.
Bullying exerts a detrimental impact on all parties involved. Victims may manifest physical symptoms, lose interest in academics, and undergo mood fluctuations. Bullies themselves may face academic challenges, exhibit disrespect for authority, and engage
in risky behaviours. Even bystanders can experience feelings of helplessness, guilt, and fear. Yet, through collective effort, we can cultivate a secure environment. Let us persist in supporting one another and empowering our students to stand up against bullying.
