Report on the Inaugural Event of Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFFCY)
The Smile International Film Festival for Children and Youth (SIFFCY) inaugurated its 11th edition on 28th January 2025 at the Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. A group of 36 middle-stage students, accompanied by two teachers, attended this grand event, marking a memorable experience for the young audience.
The primary objectives of the event were:
– To promote cultural exchange through cinema.
– To inspire young minds by showcasing exceptional storytelling.
– To provide a learning platform for students about filmmaking and creative processes.
The event began with the felicitation of Poland as the Country of Honour and Italy as the Country of Focus, along with recognition of other European nations for their contributions to children’s cinema. Child jury members from across India, including proud Ahlconites, were also acknowledged for their reviews of the short films to be featured during the festival.
A major highlight of the day was the first-ever Indian screening of the Italian film The Tiger’s Best, which featured the Indian child actor Sunny Pawar in the lead role of Balmuni. The film depicted the journey of a boy who rescues a baby tiger from poachers and helps it reunite with its mother at the Tiger’s Monastery in Kathmandu. The movie not only emphasized the profound bond between a mother and her child but also delivered a powerful message on tiger conservation.
Following the screening, a Q&A session was held with Sunny Pawar, who shared his thoughts and experiences about playing the role of Balmuni. The students actively participated by asking questions, gaining valuable insights into the challenges of acting and the filmmaking process.
The event concluded with an exciting photo session where students had the chance to get clicked with Sunny Pawar on stage, adding a personal touch to their experience. This enriching day served as an excellent learning opportunity, broadening the students’ understanding of cinema and the dedication required to create impactful stories.
