Report on Child’s Right and Inclusion in School
(Movie Screening and Panel Discussion)
“Every child has a right to education, including children with disabilities.” – Kailash Satyarthi
Ahlcon International is a school that has always been dedicated to working for children and protecting their rights, and promoting inclusion in schools is one of our core aims. School believes in spreading awareness among students and teachers, and on 27th April 2023, Mr. Puneet Duggal, Vice Principal, along with Ms. Mohita and Ms. Tarannum, attended the screening of the film ‘Ready Steady’ followed by a panel discussion on ‘How do we make our schools inclusive?’ organised by the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) in collaboration with the Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi.
The movie READY STEADY is a coming-of-age high-school docu-drama that cuts across five stories from the same classroom. The film follows the journeys of youngsters from extremely challenging backgrounds who are trying to find their place in an elite private school. The film explores the challenges and struggles that children from diverse backgrounds face while trying to fit in and excel academically.
The panel discussion was enlightening, and the panellists shared their invaluable experiences and their vision on inclusivity in schools. The panellists included Himanshu Gupta, IAS Director (Education) GNCTD, Abha Adams, Education Consultant, Chris Kollian, Senior Lead, Indus Action, Saksham, and Sweety, Child Artists. They discussed the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment in schools that supports and nurtures the development of every child.
The panellists also spoke about the challenges and opportunities that come with promoting inclusion in schools. They highlighted the importance of promoting awareness and sensitivity among teachers and students towards diversity, different cultures, and backgrounds. The panellists also emphasized the need for schools to have proper infrastructure and support systems in place to support children with disabilities and other special needs.
To conclude, attending the screening of the movie ‘Ready Steady’ and the ensuing panel discussion on promoting inclusivity in schools was an enriching experience for us. We gained valuable insights and practical ideas on how we can create an environment in our schools that is welcoming and inclusive, and which supports the development of every child. We are eager to implement these ideas and strategies to promote inclusion in our school community. We express our gratitude to Dr. Ashok Kumar Pandey, Advisor-Ahlcon Group of Schools and Principal Mr. Sanjay Yadav and, for giving us this wonderful opportunity to learn and grow.
