“Unity in diversity”. These are not simply words; they’re a metaphor for a country like India, which is rich in culture and legacy. Our ancestors have given us a rich cultural past, and their efforts to preserve our heritage shouldn’t go in vain. With this thought, a special assembly on “World Heritage Day” was conducted by class VIII-B on 19th April 2022. The students were involved in research and explored various facts about World Heritage Day, its significance, and the importance of preserving our heritage. The assembly began with an invocation to God, followed by an enlightening thought for the day. Certain important facts about the day, as well as the rich cultural heritage of India, were shared by the students supported by a video- virtual tour and facts about Indian Heritage Sites. To pour out their thoughts in a creative way, the students presented a role-play focusing on the theme of this year’s World Heritage Day- ‘Heritage and Climate’. They highlighted some important factors that lead to the deterioration of our beautiful monuments that are not just a symbol of beauty, but also represent our rich cultural past. In order to inculcate the reading habits among students and encourage the enthusiastic readers to share their learning from what they have been reading, a new segment- ‘Readers’ Club- my book, my views’ was introduced where a student shared about her learning from the book she had been enjoying. To reflect upon the learning and check students’ understanding of the topic, a quiz based on information presented in the assembly was also conducted. The students participated enthusiastically in the quiz and shared their thoughts and learning as they answered the questions keenly. Students took a pledge to preserve their monuments and are more sensitive towards anything that is a part of their heritage. The assembly concluded with words of encouragement from Principal Mr. Sanjay Yadav and HM Ms. Sunita Rajiv who enlightened the students with their own perspective of heritage and inculcated a sense of belongingness in the students.
