Inhouse Workshop Report Happy Classrooms

“In all this world there is nothing so beautiful as a happy child.”- Frank Baum

As a society, we have to start taking children’s well-being more seriously, and as educators, we’re in a prime position to do this. Creating a happy classroom is more than just reading textbooks and an extra five minutes of break time. It’s about understanding what happiness really is and developing the necessary skills to use now and in the future. With an objective to promote the emotional well-being of both students and teachers, Ms. Bhavya Kamra, Ms. Pallavi Singh, and Ms. Ruchi Kapoor of Foundation Stage, Ahlcon International School conducted an In-house Workshop on the topic, ‘Happy Classrooms’ on Saturday, 16th September 2023.

The workshop began with a fun ice-breaking activity of Human Tic Tac Toe where teachers did not use the conventional way to play the game. They were divided into teams of two called the noughts and crosses and ran to take positions on 9 chairs to create patterns. The game not only focussed on building strong memory skills in children but also a fun way to help them learn numbers in classrooms.

The workshop helped the teachers to understand how a happy environment can be created to make studies engaging for students. The highlights included a focus on providing support to the learners through various strategies namely celebrating achievements, building positive relationships, using humor, and developing coping skills. The resource persons also emphasized the happiness of teachers.

Happiness is the primary motive behind everything we do. So, becoming happy teachers should also be one of the goals despite all the stress associated with the profession. The teachers also were given some real-life situations and had to devise solutions to which the enthusiastic team of teachers gave spectacular ideas.

Principal Mr. Sanjay Yadav, Vice Principal Mr. Puneet Duggal, and Headmistress Ms. Pooja Shandilya talked about how understanding the impact of emotions on development, decision-making, and interactions of educators with themselves as well as others can help incorporate happiness and emotions in the class. It proved to be an insightful workshop aiming at spreading happiness inside and outside the classroom.
