REPORT ON THE MOCK YOUTH PARLIAMENT

Department of Economics (Secondary Stage) of Ahlcon International School conducted Aarambh: Be the Voice of New India, The Mock Youth Parliament 2024-25, on 16th October 2024 in the school premises. The session Aarambh was “Of the Students, By the Students, For the Students” which aimed to illustrate the Union Budget 2024-25 Announcement Process with specific focus on “Priorities for Viksit Bharat 2047”. It was attended by approximately 130 students of Grade XII, studying Economics. The students mocked the proceedings of 18th Lok Sabha Session, representing the members of parliament from treasury bench and opposition.

The event started with the opening remarks by Mr. Puneet Duggal (Vice Principal, Ahlcon International School) who emphasised on the need of connecting the academic syllabus to real life scenarios, which will prepare the students for college, career and life. Highlighting the topic of Government Budget (as a part of Class XII-CBSE Syllabus), he also, discussed some interesting facts related to Indian Parliament and Government Budget.

The Mock 18th Lok Sabha Proceedings were divided into two sessions. In session I, Rishika Gupta of Class XII, representing the finance minister, discussed the highlights of Union Budget 2024-25. The session was followed by The Question Hour, where students representing the members of parliament from treasury bench (with Neil Chandra as Prime Minister) and opposition bench (led by Ajit Singh Bedi, representing the Leader of the opposition), initiated the deliberations and discussions on the core four priorities of the budget, namely, Productivity and Resilience in Agriculture, Employment and Skilling, Manufacturing and Services, Inclusive Human Resource Development and Social Justice. The session was culminated by the closing remarks of Prime Minister.

Ms. Nidhi Sharma (HOD, Economics) and Ms. Anima Jain (PGT-Economics), closed the session by highlighting the significance of the activity and its fruitfulness in future preparedness of the students. Dr. Ekta Kandhari Ratra (Head Secondary Stage), who witnessed the entire event, appreciated the tireless efforts of the department of economics and students’ faculty.

Overall, the session turned out to be a huge success and a great learning experience for both students and teachers.
